Outsourcing Series: Business Advice

Our series of blogs looking at outsourcing services has focused on services that we, as your accountant and business adviser, can provide and how we can help you and your business. This week we will consider a range of other areas in which your accountant can offer assistance either directly or indirectly by introducing you to an external expert.

There are a number of areas other than accounting, payroll and tax that you may wish to outsource, and which your accountant as your trusted adviser can help with. These may include one-off projects or longer term arrangements. We will also look at some areas where your accountant can introduce you to an expert who will work with you and your adviser.

Your Trusted Adviser

Your accountant is well placed to be a one-stop business advisory service. For new business start-ups, the accountant is often the first port of call for business advice and general questions. This is because your accountant has experience in running a business; knowledge of, and experience in advising businesses in different sectors; and professional relationships with advisers and experts in other disciplines.

We help many of our clients whether they are seeking to recruit a financial director or a good quality bookkeeper. We can assist with or prepare job specifications and adverts, vet CV’s, arrange and attend interviews and help with the selection process and training. This gives our clients consistency in service and as we know our clients businesses well we are able to understand their needs. If our client has a need to fill a short term vacancy in their finance team our staff have experience to step in and provide a temporary solution.

Obtaining finance

For any business owner obtaining finance can be a stressful process, particularly when undertaking all of the work yourself. Working with your accountant will help you to increase your chances of a successful outcome. Your strength is your knowledge of, and passion for your business. Your accountant’s strength is financial expertise and experience in dealing with finance providers. Together you can prepare and present a financing proposal giving you a better chance of obtaining the finance you need.

Professional Contacts

Through years of experience and working with various types of businesses in many different sectors we have built up a number of professional contacts who we know and trust. We are able to recommend these contacts to our clients on matters that fall outside of our expertise and experience. We introduce clients to professionals who have assisted in a number of matters including:

  • Human Resources (HR) – We introduce clients to a consultant who can help with occasional matters, such as an employee issue or rewriting your staff handbook or provide general day-to-day support if required.
  • Finance – introductions to providers of banking facilities and funding including loans, asset finance arrangements and grant funding
  • Pensions and Investment planning – Independent Financial Advisers who can help with a range of financial planning situations and who we may work with on matters such as pension planning and Inheritance Tax planning
  • Legal advice – We work with solicitors on business matters such as shareholder agreements and property transactions and personal matters including wills and powers of attorney
  • IT support and advice – We can work with you and an IT consultant (your contact or ours) for a collaborative approach if you need help with accounting software and systems.
  • Data Protection services (GDPR) – If you would rather not deal with data protection matters yourself we can introduce you to an expert. They can support you and your business not only with compliance but can also help with efficiencies in your data storage and processing.
  • Provision of accountancy and business services for businesses operating abroad
