Chartered Accountancy help, support and advice in Northampton and Daventry

Staff Interview – Andrew

I joined DNG as Practice Manager in 2011. This was a new direction for me having previously worked in the profession in client facing roles.  I qualified with an independent firm in Leeds before moving back to the Midlands.

What led you to work with DNG?

Being offered a new challenge in the profession with a role encompassing a variety of aspects was very attractive. There was (and still is) plenty to learn and get to grips with. I got a good feeling from the people I met before I joined and consider that the firm has a great team culture.

What part of your job do you love the most?

I really enjoy the variety of the role, juggling the longer term projects alongside the regular day to day matters. In one week I may be managing the preparation of the firm’s monthly accounts and financial reporting, working on recruiting new staff, dealing with IT issues, writing and editing blogs, managing redecoration projects and preparing or updating our Anti-Money Laundering procedures.

If you didn’t do the job you do, what would your dream job be?

I would love to have a go at selecting music to be used in television programmes and films. The use of well known songs in films such as Lost in Translation, A Knight’s Tale and Reservoir Dogs is very effective and adds to the atmosphere. Choosing Nessun Dorma for the BBC Italia ‘90 World Cup coverage was inspired.

What’s the best piece of life advice you’ve been given?

There is no such thing as a bad experience, though I didn’t appreciate the advice at the time.

What are your hobbies/interests away from the office?

I have always enjoyed sport, usually as a spectator but I took up running last year. As well as doing the local Park Run most Saturdays I have taken part in a few 10k races including one in the grounds of Blenheim Palace and ran my first half marathon last month. I also enjoy going to the theatre and concerts and am part of team who do a weekly pub quiz.

Which country would you most like to visit?

Having travelled to a number of European countries, North America and Australia there are still a number of places I would like to visit. Top of the list are New Zealand and Iceland, and for a completely different experience Japan has a certain appeal.

What’s your favourite eating establishment?

La Casa Loco in Rugby. Mexican Food – my favourite dishes there are the Feathered steak and the Jambalaya.
