Using Cloud Accounting Apps to enhance your experience

Over the past few weeks we have been looking at benefits of cloud accounting. You will find links to our earlier blogs at the bottom of this page. This week we will be discussing Apps you can use to enhance your cloud accounting experience.

What are Apps?

In a similar way to the Apps you have on your mobile device, Apps add features to your cloud accounting software. This means you can create a system to meet your needs. Apps enhance your cloud accounting software enabling you to do much more than just prepare basic accounts. For example they can help you import data, prepare invoices and chase your debts.

Apps to support your business

There are over 500 Apps which connect to cloud based accounting systems including QuickBooks and Xero to help you and your business. These can support you in a number of ways including:

  • Bills & Expenses – Auto-recognition of scans/photos of invoices and receipts into the cloud accounting system
  • Report writing – Help interpret your financial information and preparation of business plans and forecasts
  • Payment Processing – Accept Direct Debit, credit or debit card payments from your customers which are recorded straight into your accounting system
  • Debtor Chasing – Automatic credit control processes that can be personalised to your business.
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) – Keep track of contacts and sales opportunities.
  • Point of sale – Automatically sync your sales data into your cloud accounting software for up-to-date information. E.g. connecting tills to accounting software. This also has the ability to assist with inventory management.
  • eCommerce – Build and grow your online store, while also tracking sales and performance.
  • Time Tracking – Create timesheets and project manage with ease.

New Apps are continually being developed. If you have a need in your business there may well be an App to help. If there isn’t one currently available there is a good chance one will be developed soon.

Some Apps are free, whereas others have a monthly subscription or upfront fee. However in most cases there is no long term commitment and so you have the flexibility to change the Apps to suit your growing business needs.
